This was our first show in Austin! It wasn't really a great time to play--early afternoon on a weekday, at a bar that's a little out of the way--so there wasn't much of a crowd, but the one video we've found of us on Instagram was taken at this show, so someone was watching!

The Carousel Lounge is AMAZING. It's like walking into a dream, maybe a dream you had after going to the circus and taking a lot of cold medicine and then falling asleep while watching "Blue Velvet." There is a big pink papier-mache elephant behind the stage, and a lot of circus-themed murals on the walls, and old chrome jukeboxes next to each of the booths. If you've been to Austin but never been there, you are missing out! The owner Nicki told us all about the bar's history--it's been open since 1963! (I wanted to put up a picture of Paul playing drums in front of the big pink elephant, but it was kind of blurry, so I opted for our band photo in front of the sign outside.)

There is an upright piano at the Carousel Lounge and while Nick typically plays this track on his fancy Nord, he played this version on the piano. It's probably not our best performance of this song, honestly, but it was played on a real piano and that's pretty cool!

We met some super nice dudes who had put together a Solstice Live showcase right after us at the Carousel--I remember the lineup included Mean Motor Scooter, Dimaggios, Toast Party, Fun Button, and Roar Shack. So we hung out afterwards and caught the first few bands and they were great and raucous, tons of energy, a really fun show!

Later, we went to the Austin Spy Store, which is run by an ex-cop who went from narcotics agent to libertarian private investigator. There's a great movie character arc if I ever heard one. If you ever need to buy a robotic cockroach, a pinhole camera, a stun cane, or a set of steel Wolverine claws, this is the place to go. I tried to give the guy a Gentle Brontosaurus sticker and he said we could stick it right on his front door, so if you go, you might see it there, right on the front door, at eye level.
