about

We played this show at the Aardvark in Fort Worth, TX, on St. Patrick's Day 2016, with DJ Bleezy. The Aardvark is right across the street from Texas Christian University (gorgeous old campus with huge trees and stately lawns), and has a stage with a giant old-timey crescent moon backdrop on it, and a green room featuring a taxidermied aardvark head and a mural of an aardvark version of Jack Ruby shooting an aardvark version of Lee Harvey Oswald.

It was very, very empty and very, very quiet when we arrived and started playing, and then suddenly, about 3/4 of the way through our set, the full force of St. Patrick's Day at a bar across the street from a college hit us like a freight train, as suddenly the room was packed with Fort Worth's finest and drunkest undergraduates. They were all COMPLETELY OBLITERATED. There was a lot of WOOOOOOOOing and a lot of green beer and sparkly green accessories. One woman in front of the stage kept having wardrobe malfunctions. "Whoops, that's my boob!" I heard her say. At one point, a girl tackled a boy she was flirting with and they both went crashing very loudly to the floor. It looked painful.

DJ Bleezy took over the stage and the chaos intensified. There was so much drunken dancing! It was fun! Nobody puked green puke on us! We stayed until bar time.

My favorite part of this show was that the Aardvark's cook came to talk to us afterwards and said we were great, and that he had been working there for six years and seen a ton of bands come through, but we were the first band in six years that he had ever wanted to buy an album from. (He was Mexican and said we reminded him of Los Hombres G, a Spanish band from the 80s.) So we sold him a CD, and that was possibly the nicest and most significant single CD sale we have ever had.

Generally everyone working at the Aardvark was super wonderful, though, and we had a really good time there. Josh, who booked us, was super chill and enthusiastic and kind, the sound guy was really nice and attentive, one of the bartenders wore a dinosaur shirt for our show and showed me her raptor claw tattoo. Awesome folks all around. Rating: A for Aardvark.

lyrics

You've got shampoo in your hair
And you show up to work with a smirk
You don't care that you're besmirching your cause
Worse than that yesterday's shirt

I don't fault your actions
It's your attitude I have issues with
You're blazing a pattern
It's not an isolated incident
Maybe you'll find someone to be
the butt of your jokes
But you can't expect it from everyone

You've got toothpaste on your shirt
a sure sign you brushed behind the wheel
when you made your escape, how much shame did you feel
Last night's stand wasn't your first

We used to have booze
at all the office parties
then you would always
pretend to get drunk and lose your inhibitions
I think you take pleasure
in taking advantage
in gaining an advantage
in making advances
